“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of the these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40.
LCS Food Pantry at St. Stephen's (Posted April 17, 2025) Whenever we help our neighbors in need we are the hands and heart of Christ in the world. For the months of April, May, and June our parish family will be collecting money for St. Stephen’s Food Pantry to buy non-perishable items in bulk. St. Stephen's partners with Lutheran Community Services to distribute food. The LCS Food Pantry is the largest volume Lutheran food pantry in Delaware. It provides three days of emergency food provisions for 800-1,000 families each month, 2,500-3,000 people. Approximately 200 volunteers from local churches, synagogues, the community, schools, and community service programs stock the shelves, pack bags, and serve clients. The LCS Food Pantry at St. Stephen's is located at 1301 N. Broom St. and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9 a.m. - noon, and Wednesday, 5-7 pm. Right now the need is great because the federal government has just recently cancelled 19 truckloads of food to the Foodbank of Delaware, enough for 900,000 meals. 60% of St. Stephen’s food supplies come from the Foodbank of Delaware. Chicken breasts, ground beef and eggs were provided by Delaware farmers, but this grant was recently cut by the government. So, Immanuel will match our individual donations. Each month we will make a bulk purchase of 3 or 4 items. If you write a check, please write your check to Immanuel Highlands, then put “St. Stephen’s Donation” on your memo line. We are setting a goal for each month of $500.00 in donations, to be matched for a total of $1,000.00 each month through June. In April, with the money we collect we will purchase laundry pods, body wash, shampoo, and cooking oil. In May we will donate baby diapers, sanitary pads, baby wipes and tampons. In June we will donate hand soap, dishwashing liquid, bar soap and toothpaste. Please help our sisters and brothers in need. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated! |
